Race Rules

Our Fantastic Course

The course is set within the flat rural edges of Newport, through country lanes. Starting at Lliswerry Secondary School on Nash Road, Newport, there is an approximately 1 mile run out before joining a 6 mile loop. At the end of the loop, the initial mile is retraced back past the start to the finish. This totals 8 miles. A lead car will precede the runners to warn traffic.

Getting here and parking

There is sufficient parking at the Stadium, Tennis Centre and Velodrome within the sports village complex. There is no parking at the start line nor streets nearby as this will cause congestion at the start of the race. Please car share where possible to make minimum impact on the environment. We recommend arriving early to avoid traffic congestion.

Race bibs

Please collect your race bibs from registration which is at Newport Stadium – race bibs may be collected from 7am.

The Start

The start is approximately 10 mins walk from the car park. Please allow additional time to get into your correct starting pen. We suggest that you start moving up from the car park at 8:30am as the start area can become congested. Our smiley marshals will be there to guide you.

We strongly recommend that you use the many toilet facilities on the campus (Tennis Centre, Velodrome & Stadium) before walking to the start area as portable facilities are very limited.

Anyone found urinating in the school grounds or anywhere on the course will be disqualified and banned from future races.

There is no access to the school or GOL buildings. Any attempts to enter these buildings may compromise race arrangements in future years. We are grateful to LLISWERRY HIGH SCHOOL for their support and the use of their grounds.

The Finish

The finish line is past the start line, through the gates and marked by a large arch. Your time will be recorded as you cross the line so please ensure you bib in clearly visible.

The finish area must be kept clear at all times so please make your way immediately through the finish area to collect your t-shirt. We can only supply the t-shirt size ordered on your entry form.

Please, please, please don’t cool down on the course. Running back up the course after the finish to cool down or for any other reason is not permitted as this could endanger finishing runners.

To exit the school campus, please continue walking around the building away from the finish area to avoid conflict with incoming runners. Your route back to the car park includes a road crossing. Please take care as runners will be finishing the race.

Water Stations

Bottled water is available at mile 4 and at the finish.

Headphones

The use of any headphones, including bone conductors is not permitted.

Transfer of Entries

Transfers are permitted up to and including January 6th 2024. After this date no further changes may be made. The amendment of t-shirt sizes can be made up to November 25th 2023

Transfers can be processed through your Fabian4 account.

Bag Drop

There is no bag drop facility so please arrive ready to run. Any clothing discarded at the start will be collected and taken to a charity clothes bank.

Hot Drinks and Snacks

Hot drinks and snacks are available to purchase from the kiosk at the Newport Stadium. Please note that this is a cash only facility.

The Awards

Awards will be posted out to winners after the event. We will be awarding prizes for the following categories.

Men 1st, 2nd & 3rd finishers, plus first in age categories: Senior, V40, V45, V50, V55, V60, V65, V70
Men’s Teams: 1st Running Club Team (4 finishers)
Ladies 1st, 2nd & 3rd finishers, plus first in age categories: Senior, V35, V40, V45, V50, V55, V60, V65, V70
Ladies Teams: 1st Running Club Team (4 finishers)

Prizes for each age category will be awarded to runners registered in that specific category. For example Vet 45 prize is open to all those between 45 & 49, Vet 50 to those between 50 and 54 etc. It is therefore possible that the 1st, 2nd & 3rd finishers and members of the winning teams may receive 2 prizes (1st finisher certainly will!)
